Weather Alert: Flash Flood Warning

04/03/2025

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Faulkner County, effective until 7:45pm tonight, Thursday, April 3, 2025. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

“Turn Around, Don't Drown" is a National Weather Service campaign emphasizing the dangers of driving or walking through floodwaters, advising people to avoid flooded areas and turn around instead. The core message is simple: If you encounter a flooded road, walkway, or path, turn around and find an alternate route instead of attempting to drive or walk through the water. This is vital to citizen safety for several reasons:

1) Moving Water: Even a small amount of moving water can be dangerous, and vehicles can be swept away by as little as 12 inches of fast-moving water. Floodwaters can flow swiftly, carrying away vehicles and even experienced swimmers.

2) Beneath the Surface: Beneath the surface of floodwaters, there can be submerged obstacles like debris, rocks, and downed power lines.

3) Loss of Control: Six inches of water can cause vehicles to lose control and stall, and a foot of water can float many vehicles.

4) Drowning: Many flood-related deaths occur when people attempt to drive or walk through floodwaters.

Remember: Never drive through flooded roadways.
If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground if you can do so safely.
Listen to local stations, NOAA Weather Radio, and trusted social media accounts for flooding condition updates. Always evacuate immediately if instructed to do so by local authorities.
