Media Release

03/10/2014

On 03-09-14 at approximately 9:00 p.m. the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a sexual assault allegation from a 14 year old female naming Deputy Sheriff Keith Rick as a suspect. The mother of the victim asked what steps she should take. She was advised to take her daughter to the Conway Police Department to make an incident report since the allegations took place inside the Conway City Limits. She was informed that this would be the beginning of the criminal investigation. A short time later an incident report was made. After the report was filed and statements taken, Major John Randall, along with a patrol deputy went to Mr. Rick’s residence to place him on administrative leave, pending Conway PD’s criminal investigation. This was to inform him that he had no law enforcement authority, and to retrieve his patrol car and all county issued equipment. During this process, statements were made by Mr. Rick that will be part of the criminal investigation, so any further details would be inappropriate at this time. Due to statements made by Mr. Rick last night, his employment with the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office was terminated this morning at approximately 10 a.m. Mr. Rick had been employed at the FCSO since 06-02-2008. He started as a detention officer. He was transferred to the prisoner transport division in August of 2010, where his title was deputy sheriff. In March of 2013 he was transferred to the patrol division, where he was assigned until his termination. The victim was an acquaintance of Mr. Rick.

Rick was not on duty or under his official capacity when this incident occurred.
