Detention Officer Arrested; Two Others Charged

03/12/2018

During late afternoon on Sunday, 3/11/18, Faulkner County Sheriff Investigators arrested 21 year old Faulkner County Detention Officer, Robert Ellis and 60 year old bail bondsman, Margaret Cockrell of Ben's Bail Bonds, at the Faulkner County Detention Center Unit 2.

Investigators were tipped that Ellis was working with a detainee, 25 year old Glenn Toney, who had been booked and held at the Faulkner County Detention Center since 4/20/17 on a variety of charges. Toney was being held on a $100,000 bond as well as a charge with no bond.  Investigators had probable cause to believe Toney offered money to Ellis to manipulate booking paperwork to remove the no bond hold.  After the no bond was removed by Ellis, Toney was bonded out by Cockrell, who allegedly conspired with Toney and Ellis.

Investigators arrested Toney as he was attempting to walk out the front door of the detention center. Investigators also arrested Cockrell and Ellis at the Detention Center.  Charges at the time of this press release are as follows:

  • 5-54-117 - Furnishing Implementation for Escape
  • 5-54-106 - Aiding Consumption of Offense
  • 5-54-113 - Permitting Escape - 1st Degree
  • 5-3-401 - Conspiracy

There was no bond amount or court date available at the time of this press release.

Ellis was immediately terminated from his job with Faulkner County.
