Suspected Drug Activiy Leads to Investigation

09/22/2017

On Friday, 9/22/17, at approximately 7:00 pm., deputies were dispatched to 283 Hwy 365 for a possible narcotics deal in the parking lot at this address.  The responding deputy noticed two vehicles matching the description from what was reported to FCSO Communications.  The first deputy on scene made contact with the drivers of the vehicles and noticed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia sitting in the lap of one of the subjects.

Soon after contact was made, the driver of the vehicle in possession of the apparent drug paraphernalia fled the scene, dragging the deputy with the moving vehicle.  The deputy, fearing for his life, discharged one round into the vehicle, missing the driver and passenger.  The driver sped away eventually crashing into parked vehicles where he was then taken into custody without further incident.

There were no injuries sustained during this incident.  Per FCSO policy and procedure, the deputy was placed on paid administrative leave.  This incident is considered under investigation.  Charges are pending.
